Mike Yun…
…is currently working on using programming to run statistical analysis of music to help understand its underlying blueprint.
He incorporated a simple five-step process of running statistical analyses of musical works:
1. Convert sound files into midi files
2. Convert midi files into a spreadsheet
3. Reorganize the spreadsheet
4. Run it through R for analyses
5. Make inferences
He aims to accomplish the following:
1. Assist music scholars in analyzing music
2. Provide a better control for researchers in the cognitive sciences when using music as a stimulus
3. Advise digital music service companies like Spotify to incorporate unique AI to expose listeners to new music
